Hi all.

I decided to install karmic koala.

It was a fresh install on a disk that had xp on it.

The install process went smoothly.
However, after install, koala won't boot.

On boot, I get a blank screen and a blinking cursor.

I installed from a downloaded CD. If I insert the CD, boot from it and then choose the 'boot from first hard drive' option, then I get a similair result:
I get the message "Booting from local disk", a blinking cursor on the next line, and no boot process.

What do I do from here ?

Did you try booting into the Live system before you installed? If not try that but I expect you'll get the same problem. My guess is that hardware is at the root of the problem.

I have 2 laptops, one will happily boot from the Live CD but the other . I posted the question here:-> (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1310932) but no one seems to have an answer. {yet}

The problem mysteriously went away.

Indeed, hardware might by at the root of it.
This worries me.
