View Full Version : [ubuntu] GRUB 2 removed not working again ... and again

Hello out there,

after the easy and successful 9.10 installation which even brings out of the box support for my WLAN USB Stick and my ATI video device, I started having strange issues with my GRUB 2. It worked fine the first day. 2nd day: boot process fails - grub error 17. Removed GRUB via Super Grub Disk, reinstalled it via the procedure prescribed by the ubuntuusers.de Wiki.
This actually worked for a day and now as I tried booting (into Linux, of course), GRUB does not load AT ALL! It goes straight through to windows.

One thing I could think of is, that Ubuntu indicates my second hard drive was faulty (many broken sectors), and that maybe the attempt to mount that device could interfere with sdb's boot sector ? Actually, WHY is it I can not mount a volume just because Ubuntu says it might be broken?

If anybody could help, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks, kingair_six
