AdBlock Plus works flawlessly in Google Chrome/Chromium for me; anyone else experiencing such success with AdBlock Plus in Google Chrome/Chromium?

Once I updated to the latest 4.0+ Developer Build, I find AdBlock Plus (& FlashBlock) work flawlessly for me in Google Chrome/Chromium.

Google Chrome Dev. 4.0+ Dev Build:
http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=devchannel

AdBlock+ - 1.1.9.9 (http://www.chromeextensions.org/appearance-functioning/adblock/)

I tried it and it didn't work. However, I think I was using a different version.

Edit: Yes it now works! Awesome!

Click on the "Ad+" that's crossed out in the upper right and then on preferences.

It didn't work for me. I mean... it blocked ads when I manually blocked them with Alt+B, but no other ads were blocked, and the icon in the corner didn't do anything.

Am I supposed to add a blocklist my self or is it just not working for me?

Well Adblock Plus isn't offically supported by Google. So I wonder if they will disable the ability to run it in the long run. Personally I am going to stick with Swiftfox/Firefox, at least I know where I stand with them. I wonder what is going to happen when we have a Google Chrome OS too, is this the next Microsoft in waiting?

Okay, I've been using the Chromium developer repositories for quite some time so lets see if I can help.

Those of you reporting that this doesn't work.
Make sure you are launching Chromium with the command

Chromium-browser --enable-plugins %U
You can run this from the command line, or edit this in the applications menu if need be.

I will also note that I have had the adblock plugin installed in my version of Chrome for some time and until recently it failed because the clicking on the plugin did nothing as many people have mentioned. This is common when the version of Chromium/Chrome you are using doesn't support extensions. To see if your version supports extensions, click on the wrench and see if extensions is listed as an option.

I don't know if this is developed by the same people who did Ad-block plus for Firefox, but I will note that it behaves differently. When it first starts up, it does not ask you to add a blocklist, you have to do this manually by clicking on the ad-block icon and going to preferences.

Thanks for the great post Thelasko, this should help some people to get AdBlock+ working properly in Google Chrome/Chromium

Also, doing a bit of research on the AdBlock Plus forums, it appears the AdBlock Plus Developer has made it clear he does not have the time to develop AdBlock Plus for Google Chrome/Chromium:

Re: Porting request: Google Chrome (https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2866&start=135#p29909)

https://adblockplus.org/forum/styles/prosilver/imageset/icon_post_target.gif (https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=29909#p29909)by Wladimir Palant (https://adblockplus.org/forum/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2) » Mon Oct 12, 2009 10:09 pm
When Chrome will have extensions: better ask Chrome developers. I hear that nightlies already have some rudimentary extension support but it could easily take a year or more before you can do something really useful with those.

Whether I will port Adblock Plus to Chrome: as I already said at the beginning of this thread - definitely not. I already have enough things to spend my time on, I don't need to rewrite Adblock Plus from scratch for a totally different platform.
https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2866&start=135

So it appears that the Google Chrome/Chromium AdBlock+ (and FlashBlock) Developer Lex1 built a completely different product. Adblock Plus is released under MPL while AdBlock+ for Chrome is released under GPL.

There is an extensive explanation about Chrome's AdBlock+ built by Lex1 and other ad blockers posted by Michael3185 (http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/member/michael3185.chrome), here is a bit of it with a link to his post:

A lot of people are confused about advert blocking in Chrome and other browsers, so for those who don't find the subject clear, here's some simple help. Adblock+ for Chrome is written by Lex1....

When most people use the name Adblock+ they're referring to the Firefox extension, Adblock Plus. The Adblock+ discussed here is not the same thing. In Firefox, Adblock Plus can stop ads from loading, and also has a companion extension called Element Hider which lets you remove annoying things from web pages you visit. It has a context (popup) menu which allows easy selection and ad blocking, and uses lists provided around the web of nasty sites to block. Adblock Plus stops ads before they load, which speeds up browsing slightly and saves a little bandwidth as well. It's not available for Chrome yet....

Google say that Chrome will soon have proper extension support, which should give the ability for true content blocking. For now (and in fact even when content blocking is available) Adblock+ does a superb job, though it perhaps should have been called HideContent to save confusion.

Adblock+ is available in this thread (http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/chrome-plugins/adblock-7523.html). (If you want the User Script version, go to the link at userscripts.org and then click the Source Code tab at the top of the page and copy the script content into a file).http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/chrome-plugins/blocking-ads-hiding-page-elements-8477.html

Indeed, I was too lazy and just used the browser without flash, which was the only available plugin at the time, but a few weeks later, plugins were enabled by default. Then it was just matter of downloading the 64bit plash player: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Adblock is installed, the lists are downloaded, but the ads aren't gone. Even worse: on pages like heise.de the vertical ads are now glued to the left side of the window making text impossible to read.

I too have the problem. Adblock seems to be installed and everything and I've subscribed to that list, but the ads aren't blocked.

Same here. It seemed to work briefly, and now no more.

Yeah, mine works too. For a while the ABP icon wasn't displayed, but it was definitely still working.

It's nowhere near as good as the Firefox version. Some ads slip through.

I've also noticed that instead of blocking the ads from loading, they load and are then blocked.

Edit: From the extension's website, "For now, AdBlock Plus subscriptions are supported, but only for elements hiding rules, because Chrome does not yet have “content policy”."

I am currently on the market for "the best browser on linux". Chrome(ium) has definately caught my eye, but untill adblocking is implemented properly I won't consider anything a "real" browser.

Too bad arora is still not quite mature. It looks like those guys have the right mindset.

Right now I am using rekonq. And sometime chromium or even google-chrome.

I found the USA version of EasyList is not as reliable at blocking ads as the Deutschland version is, try switching to the Deutschland version + EasyList remember to not only hit the "Subscribe" button but also to "save" Global filters, then refresh the browser or webpage a few times for it to properly block ads. I tested mine on gmail, I honestly didn't test all the other list out once I found the Deutschland version worked better.

Adblock stopped working in version 4.0.252.0. When I try to reinstall it I get a message that says, "Content scripts cannot be executed on file://urls."

I'm having the same issue, extension appears to have completely dissapeared from the browser and I get the same error when attempting to install it again.

I try to add it, and all I get is an error message that says:

Content scripts can not be executed on file:// urls.

Same problem here. I imagine it will be fixed by the next daily build.

EDIT: Nevermind, it looks like it's an intended change
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=28165

That kinda sucks, my tinfoil hat makes me wonder if they did it on purpose to break adblocking extensions, neither adblock+ or anti-ads work anymore.

Can I get some help adding Adblock Plus to Chromium, which I just installed today. My Chromium version is 4.0.252.0(ubuntu build 32323}. I have added the extension adblock+ version 1.1.9.9, but I can't seem to install the extension, much less get it to work. Hate those ads!

My Chromium version is 4.0.252.0(ubuntu build 32323}.
That particular version doesn't support adblock. Please try another one. 4.0.254 seems to be fine.

So, this morning I decided to see if there were any updates to ABP for Chromium. I went to the ABP site (http://www.chromeextensions.org/appearance-functioning/adblock/), and discovered that there is a new version 1.1.9.17 (I was running 1.1.9.14). When I go to install it I recieve some error message about an older version. I uninstall 1.1.9.14 and try to install 1.1.9.17 again. I ended up installing 1.1.8 instead! Now I can't find a version of 1.1.9.14 anywhere!

Update: I was able to find version 1.1.9.9 in a post above, but nothing newer.

Well, I found the problem. I'm using the wrong website to download extensions. When I go to the correct website I get an Aw, Snap! error. (http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95669&hl=en) Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to correct it. I've tried deleting the chromium folder under ~./.config but that didn't solve the problem.

Today's build seems to have solved the problem. I must say 1.1.9.17 is the best version yet!

its great but it doesnt block ads in videos. I've tried all the list from the FF version and for some reason, chrome just doesnt blocks ads for videos. Everything else, works fine. I noticed pages load faster with the fanboy block list.
