When trying to install, splash screen keeps coming on

First: I've got an HP a1010n (Celeron processor, integrated intel video, 1 GB ram, XP on one partition, unformatted blank space from a previous Linux Mint partition).

Now I put in the Live CD, load into the desktop, and it seems that as soon as I get my mouse near the Install icon (also happened as soon as I tried to click on an alternate wallpaper choice), it goes back to the splash screen and keeps on showing the splash screen until I force off the power.

I tried a burn of a CD and DVD in two different drives, and I tested the DVD by doing an installation in Parallels for Mac 4, so I'm at a loss...

How do I install Ubuntu?

Update: I re-burned (at a slower speed) the DVD, and I tried to install again (this time choosing safe graphics mode) and it worked!
