LIVE CD Cannot Try it

I want to try ubuntu in the LIVE CD mode. I have downloaded it three times, twice from Bittorrent and once from an HTTP site. In all instances when I boot from the CD I go to a graphic login screen. It requires a username and password. I have tried waiting it out hoping for a default startup, I have tried entering "ubuntu" for the username without a password. I tried using "ubuntu" for both username and password. So far everything I tried has failed to get me passed the login screen.

I posted this problem in the new user forum without any success. I'm hoping someone here can help.

If, i recall just press enter with the login screen entry box blank.

I tried doing that, it didn't work.
Is there a default "userame" and "password"?
