I have a friend who has a Dell Laptop and using XP (in Chinese and has no XP installation Disks) they have a nasty virus where the laptop hangs every few minutes. I have managed to get rid of some of the virus's but it still does not look good. I have said that Ubuntu coulf be just the OS for them and they have agreed.
I have dounloaded Ubuntu on to my PC and have tried to make a boot CD to copy it on to and the install from the infected laptop. I have done what it says on the website but I can't get the laptop Umbutu to boot from the CD. I get a Blue screen saying a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damge to the computer.
Can you please advice. Many thanks.

If you are trying to install it, why not boot from the bios? By the way, the blue screen is called the "Blue Screen of Death", BSOD. And, please take your email off this post.

Sounds like the computer isn't booting from the cdrom, or the cd is defective. You might need to go into the bios to set the boot order to make the computer boot from the cdrom before it tries from the hard disk.
