View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu Karmic Freezes after user selection

I installed Ubuntu Karmic yesterday. Everything works fine except this. The system boots fine and then the user selection screen appears. I select my account, I type my password and then I press Enter. Then the bar starts moving and after a couple of seconds it stops. The disk activity stops too. And usually the keyboard lights start blinking (kernel panic?). Then I press the reset button, it boots and the logs in fine and everything is working. This happens all the time. (The first time I turn on the computer each day it freezes and after the reset it works fine). This also used to happen with Intrepid and Jaunty (not in Hardy though), but after five minutes of use (with no blinking lights). Does anybody know why this happens?
P.S.: I have nVidia driver v185 installed.

I installed the latest nvidia driver (190.42) manually, I'll test and then report.
