View Full Version : [ubuntu] Volume Bar lagging, turning unusable

November 1st, 2009, 04:54 AM
in Ubuntu 9.10 if I turn the volume wheel on my notebook, in the top right corner of the Gnome desktop a volume-o-meter appears and ..tries.. to display the change in volume.
However, it LAGS over several seconds, often jumping back and forth like mad. It's practically unusable.
Any way to get a clear, precise and non insanely lagging volume change indicator?
I used Mandriva before, because Ubuntu 9.04 was completely unusable due to severe graphic driver bugs (intel), and when I turned the volume wheel, I got a clear, instant, non-jumping response. Any idea how to fix this, please? Other than that, the system is very usable and neat (well, maybe except that for about a year now it still can't make use of my Canon LBP5050n network printer o_O).

I just noticed, the bar for display brightness lags too -_- although much less.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
I'm getting the same behaviour from a fresh 10.10 install on an HP DV2910us.

The lag in my case is the other way round to that you described. The brightness adjust is just about unusable due to lag, the volume adjust is much better, but still laggy.
