I have a Dell Dimension 8200 running 8.10 with a ATI RV630 PRO AGP [Radeon HD 2600 PRO AGP] board. 9.10 install starts, I select English, it displays a screen of text quickly, shows ubuntu logo, runs the CD for a few minutes, then with screen black just quietly sits. 9.04 install is similar, but displays garbled graphics and sits. I hoped they would make 9.10 work with older video boards. My board was purchased May 2008 because older one died.

I have same problem with a home built system that worked fine with 9.04 - upgraded from earlier versions over time. Now when I try and do a clean install from 9.04 or 9.10 the monitor simply displays a message "Input Not Supported".
It is impossible to interact with the installation and hence I am stuck.
I did get an upgrade to 9.10 to work with a not-latest kernel (can't remember the numbers), but it has lost sound and DVB-T cards. lspci finds them all, but aplay -l gives a no card message :(
Generally a mess.
Any answers out there?
My video card is an ATI X800Pro
