I upgraded 9.10 from 9.04 and it totally screwed up my system. The first thing that I noticed is that the touchpad doesn't work anymore at the login screen (although the keyboard does). Once I entered my credentials, the screen started showing all kinds of weird colors flashing. It was kind of trippy.
I'm not too worried, since I cloned the system before upgrading, plus nothing on there is very important anyway. Just figured I'd warn anyone before they tried the upgrade. I used the alternate cd for the upgrade.
I had the same keyboard issue when I had upgraded to an alpha or beta a few weeks ago (and I ultimately ended up wiping and reinstalling 9.04). I don't recall the screen bugging out, though.
