View Full Version : [ubuntu] Karmic freezes after language selection

OK, here's the deal... I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop. It worked just fine. But then, like 5 minutes later, I tried to install it on my notebook and the installation process froze a few moments after the language selection.
I tried, then, to run as a live CD. The same thing happened. It freezes and I get some white giant blur that keeps moving, with a couple of vertical lines stuck on the screen.
Well, here are its specs:

Graphics card: VIA Chrome 9 IGP (the whole chipset is VIA)
Processor: Core 2 Duo T5800
3gb RAM

Has anybody ever had a similar problem? I have no clue on how to solve this.
Thanks in advance!

Same here.

I was hoping I could use a text based install but you need a different CD for that and I don't have any bandwidth (satellite)...

Perhaps if I knew the name of the install program I could upgrade it whilst running from the liveCD.

Now going to try these options:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopCDOptions

the installer is called ubiquity

hmm... perhaps I can update Ubiquity while the liveCD is running to solve the bug... or download the .deb for Ubiquity and run that... but I've got to find it first.

Please, if anyone else if having problems reply to the thread with ideas, I seem to be the only one with this problem
