hey,
As the title suggests, I was wondering if anyone else out there can unicycle?

I've always wondered...what's the point of a unicycle?

Can you go very fast on them?

There's a guy at my school who unicycles around campus...all I can think is that it must be so much harder than just walking.

The point of a unicycle varies, depending on what you want to do with it. There are several different disciplines of unicycling. There is freestyle, muni (mountain unicycling), trials, street, flatland and touring.

For me, the main point of learning to ride, was the challenge of learning. Now, I either do it to get from A to B, or to learn a new skill, and generally I don't do as much when I don't have a specific skill I am trying to learn.

As for speed, it depends on what size it is. Because it has a fixed hub, generally the bigger the wheel, the faster it goes.
The one I ride most has a 20" wheel and is considerably faster than walking, but slower than biking.

It takes me about 15 mins to unicycle to university, or between 8 and 10 to bike.

For me it is no more effort than walking, after a while it just became second nature.
