Net upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 not starting w/ screen on/off

I had 9.04 32bit installed on my labtop, and I did the internet upgrade to 9.10, it took all night but everything seemed to upgrade fine with no errors. It asked me a couple of times if I wanted to move the menu.Ist file and I chose no to keep it the same. Anyway, my computer boots to grub and I select Ubuntu (which still says 9.04) and 9.10 begins to start I get the grey ubuntu logo and then my screen begins to turn on and off, and I have to do a hard reboot to get it to stop. I had cairo dock installed on my 9.04, and I know there could be many reasons why this is happening so I wanted to come on here before I did anything myself.
