I installed Karmic Koala today using a mini iso file located @
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/netboot/ and it installed gnome panel and other applications, is this an eror? is anyone getting the same results when using the mini iso file for karmic?

The mini ISO isn't about a minimal install. It's about minimal boot media.

The mini ISO isn't about a minimal install. It's about minimal boot media.

The Minimal CD downloads packages from online archives at installation time instead of providing them on the install CD itself. Downloading packages at install time reduces the size of the install CD to approximately 5 to 20MB depending on architecture - > as well as providing only the packages needed for installation. < -

as well as providing only the packages needed for installation. a minimal Karmic based system.

If you don't want loads of 'rubbish' installed, maybe you're at the stage in your Linux life where you try Archlinux...

I agree with sengines, karmic minimal install it's not minimal at all. I see it installs openoffice.org, phyton and pulseaudio, among others.

for comparison, jaunty is minimal. why such a change in karmic?
