I had a fairly smooth upgrade (though it deleted Songbird!) from 9.04. After fixing a problem with my touchpad from instructions off some blog, everything is incredibly slow when I change between Terminal and Firefox, or load a new page.

top says xorg is working at 98+% cpu, which I never saw on 9.04. Typing is fast once the field has focus (it takes AGES to focus after clicking though).

I'm using a Dell Inspiron Dual core with 3GB RAM and 7.2 GB swap. (could too much swap be a problem?). Theres a Vista partition.

Thanks!

I wasn't trying to imply the touchpad thing broke it, it was slow before I sorted that.

Can anyone help?

Oh it works now. It was a grub problem, like I was loading a hybrid version of Karmic and 9.04
