Hi I have ubuntu installed along side vista on my laptop.
Basically I upgraded 8.04 to 8.10 when I rebooted and selected unbuntu 8.10 from the grub menu it started to load and then displayed this error:
[ 0.996082] kenal panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount to root fs on unknown wn-block (0,0)
can someone please help me.
many thanks

its a dual boot. do you know what the error message means ?
I tried loading a different kernal and it manged to boot up to ubuntu but I have no wireless network connections I cant access my nvidia drivers also I cant log out of the system or shut it down when I click on the "User" button on the menu bar at the top (nothing happens).
can someone please help. I might install ubuntu 9.10 over my 8.10 partition but im worried this will affect the grub menu and stop vista booting up :(
