View Full Version : How long did your Karmic Koala Download take

October 30th, 2009, 02:20 PM
Just thought it would be interesting to see the variation of how many Seconds/ Minuets / Hours your Download took .

Mine used to take 1 and a half hours two years since but with my current ISP its around 14 Minuets to download a 690 MB ISO.

I would say months, because I've been using karmic since the alpha. I have wasted much time with daily updates.

October 30th, 2009, 02:48 PM
About 30 minutes

October 30th, 2009, 02:51 PM
about 20-25.
I chose the Switzerland mirror and it was fast. I tried a bunch of others first and they came down at 30kbs to 120kbs. The swiss was 500-630.

Usual speed for me, 204KB/sec, about an hour.

October 30th, 2009, 03:01 PM
Almost an hour

October 30th, 2009, 03:02 PM

October 30th, 2009, 03:13 PM
About 5 minutes. 2.1MB/s on the torrent and currently seeding.

Sadly I had to direct download, but it only took about 10 minutes. I used the MIT server in North America. Hopefully later I will get my friends to seed some.

It was really fast on Bittorrent actually due to the number of peers! I couldn't really have hoped to get it faster :)

October 30th, 2009, 03:28 PM
14 mins via bittorrent

You should get it in a library or cafe, transfer it in a flash drive, and burn it at home. That way it will not take forever.

2 mintues, 30 seconds.

The torrents are great. More people should use them.

The update from Jaunty is taking ~4 hrs this morning on a T1 university line. everyone must have waited til today.

October 30th, 2009, 03:56 PM
Mine took approximately 1 hour.

October 30th, 2009, 04:02 PM
About 15 minutes

October 30th, 2009, 04:20 PM
Mine took 12 hours on DSL! Must be every one was downloading from the servers at the same I did and it was slooow. Fortunately, with the exception of a corrupted Open Office install, the upgrade completed without incident. Upon reboot, I was able to get Open Office set up and working again!

14 minutes for the .iso w/ bittorrent/deluge. I've been seeding for 9 hours and I am almost at a 1.0 share ratio.

I'll DL the alternate and server disks in school on Monday, they get 1Mbyte/s so I can get them all in one class, but I really wanted the desktop x86 iso now :)

I'm deployed to Iraq right now and it took about 14hrs @ roughly 7-19kbs, I watched the site like a hawk for it to change over so I could be on first, I was actually happy it was that fast. I was gone most of the night so it didn't bother me much.

Installed fine, alittle slow imo, and having the typical Dell fan issue.

October 30th, 2009, 11:30 PM
certainly not over ten minutes by torrent. seeding now.

October 31st, 2009, 01:49 AM
Torrent seems to be the best way to get the ISO based on some of the numbers in this thread.

October 31st, 2009, 02:14 AM
20 minutes for the alternate install iso from the fastest US mirror.

(It didn't survive more than half an hour once I started actually using it... glad I had it on a spare drive.)

October 31st, 2009, 02:15 AM
The morning it was up, I downloaded via Torrent at 2.2/MBps, so it completed pretty fast. I then seeded it most of the day while I was at work. :p

October 31st, 2009, 02:20 AM
about 30 minutes for both 32 and 64 bit images. seeding. my 64bit seed has a ratio of 1.30. compared to the other being 0.84.

I couldn't tell, I was napping a bit, but I'll guess 1-2 hours, since it was done when I woke up.

I'd say that over the course of two days (I needed to shut down in between classes), it took about 9 or 10 hours with the Wi-Fi connection I had the past few days.

October 31st, 2009, 07:29 AM
Took me about 30 mins to download. I'm using someone elses wireless though and it's a weak connection. I stationed in South Korea so I think it came from the Japan Server. If I would have been at my fiances place and not the barracks maybe 3 mins 7 max using Internet Download Manager.

October 31st, 2009, 07:51 AM
took about 15 min via HTTP only a few hours after it went live..

October 31st, 2009, 08:05 AM
11 Minutes, 22 Seconds (yesterday).

October 31st, 2009, 08:15 AM
Downloaded mine seconds after the front page was updated.

October 31st, 2009, 08:22 AM
I got it off my server in about three to five minutes. 1 mb/s.

October 31st, 2009, 08:28 AM
It took me about 10 hours to download it (I'm at a University so the variance of download speed is huge) and when it did finish downloading it didn't even work xD

October 31st, 2009, 09:08 AM
About 30 minutes

Me too. I played a few hands of freecell and it was done.

October 31st, 2009, 10:25 AM
Too long to upgrade. Had to cancel. It goes from 8 to 15 hours. I guess my speed here is not consistent. Trying BiTorrent now and see how it goes.

October 31st, 2009, 10:48 AM
Upgraded from the RC, I think the whole download was around 5MB, so it was done in a couple seconds.
