I just installed Ubuntu 9.10. and since it booted from the live CD I was not able to see my wallpaper. My desktop was blank too and I had no icons like the "install ubuntu" and "examples" icons. Ubuntu is now fully installed running without the live CD. I have also noticed that when I enable desktop effects, they kinda lag.
anyone experiencing this?

try running "Nautilus &" in a prompt? If there is no background and no icons (and nothing happens when you right click) that implies that Nautilus isn't running o.O

As for Compiz, I don't know as I don't use it but let's deal with the background problem first! lol

Ohh!! never mind! staff please delete this, sorry!
I just changed my resolution to 1440X869 (or something like that) @ 75Mhz and it worked.

Can you please mark you thread SOLVED? Deleting the thread may not allow someone, who is having the exact same problem, a solution.

also this isn't really the support section! lol

But it is nice to hear about the ups and downs of Karmic anyway so I don't mind a few threads like this in here! :)
