After downloading 9.10 at 600KB/s (my ips's max speed), I tried to download my usual packages from the repos, and it was <50KB/s.

Keep in mind, these two downloads happened within an hour of each other.

Is canonical throttling their repos for the speed of downloading the ISOs?

just switch to another one. There are plenty to choose from, not all hosted by cannonical

Heh. Someone recently said that the alternate repos were the best kept secret of Ubuntu.

Guess that's so! :D

I'm getting the same problem from Karmic, download the same thing with Jaunty & full speed. It will be like this for a few days till everybody who wants Karmic, has it then it will go back to normal speeds :)

The servers are getting hit hard right now. That's life.

In the US, the anl.gov mirror has the fattest pipe and is still screaming fast.

under synaptic or under sources, just change the default server or have it find the fastes one.

I'm so glad I installed release candidate on my computers and got them up and running early this time.

upgrading to the RC 2 or 3 days early or upgrading 2 or 3 days after the release is always the best bet.

Indeed... Everyone should hit detect fastest server when changing it and choose the US one that works fastest for you... Alot of them are running alot faster than standard US one and they stay just as up to date!

Shameless plug to the kernel.org mirrors. Been using them for a long time and have always supplied plenty of bandwidth. They are starting to get a bit more popular though.

If you have access to a university's network resources, use another university as your mirror. Internet2 means universities give each other priority access and high speeds.

The main repos are always slow, you should just 'select' fastest and whatever comes up will probably be faster than your internet connection. I tend to get linked to UC campus mirrors, and they max out my internet connection.

I was getting between 6,000 to 10,000 kB / sec from GATech.

This only works if your University has Internet2 access.
