Does anyone know when Firefox 3.5.4 is going to hit the Karmic repositories? It is just it sounded quite a critical update...

Because they are security updates.

I know, right? I, for one, love gaping security holes in my applications.

Did anyone bother to check the 3.5.4 release notes, to see what security problems affect Linux rather than Windows?

Anyway, you might have noticed a lack of updates within the past couple of days. The final release is being readied for the mirrors, and shortly after release (sometime within the 24 hours known as "today"), there will be updates coming. I would expect an update to FF 3.5 will be here shortly after the release of the Karmic final.

Wait for it.

Yes and the didn't specify an OS...

However, the majority of the issues can be worked-around by disabling Javascript, should anyone be that worried. I just wondered if anyone knew when it would be added to the repos.

Just get Swiftfox. Not only did it update to 3.5.4 a day or two ago, but it's also faster and much more memory efficient. It's (apparently not) in the repos.

Edit: Wow... http://www.mozilla.org/security/announce/2009/mfsa2009-56.html
That's not good.

I'd like to try Swiftfox but I can't find it in the repositories?

Edit: According to the Swiftfox website the current is 3.5.3

It's not in the repositories. You have to download it from their website. I'm not sure if they have their own repository or not. I haven't used Swiftfox in a loooooong time.

Swiftfox install instructions: http://getswiftfox.com/deb.htm
I'd gotten so used to autoupdating it and seeing it in Synaptic I thought it was in the repos automatically. Stupid me. :)

Can't remember how this works in Ubuntu? Do we get security updates for the supported Firefox? Is it 2.0.x in Ubuntu 9.04?

Yeah, I did some Googling and found that. I have added the repository already and am loving it. It is much faster than standard Firefox, very happy thanks for the tip, I never even knew that existed.

No, it is 3.0.x in 9.04 and 3.5.x in 9.10. But yes you should get any standard Mozilla updates through the Update Manager.:D
