I've just installed Ubuntu from an old dusty cd from a friend of mine. I cant update this version anymore. Can anyone help me? Here's what I keep getting while trying to update.

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

The bad news is that the updates for 7.04 are no longer available through the usual channels, because 7.04 is no longer officially supported.

Hopefully another forum user will be able step in and suggest a server to try.

Feisty Fawn (7.04) is no longer supported. As a result, updates are no longer available.
You should upgrade (or better still perform a fresh install of a later version)

I have the same problem. Is there any way to just upgrade, rather than doing a fresh install?

You can, but not directly. You would have upgrade from 7.04 -> 7.10 -> 8.04 -> 8.10 -> 9.04 -> 9.10

You see 7.04 is about 2 and a half years old. It would be easier and quicker to download the latest version (which is coming out tomorrow, Oct 29) than to all those updates.

You could install either 8.04 or the 9.04 since they are both LTS (Long Term Support/Service) meaning they will be supported for a longer period like 7.04 was but has since been discontinued given the 2 years are already up.

By the way new version come out every six months, April (04 month), and October (10 month).

Small correction there, 9.04 is not LTS, but 10.04 will be LTS

I have just installed a more up to date version! Thanks!
