Gents:

I've recently completed initial build/install/test & update of an able AMD quad system running x32__Jaunty_9.04.

amd_965 w/box HS/fan
MSI 790-gd70 BIOS v-1.04
BFG_9800 gtx+
2x2-G crucial cl.9
650w ASUS
Liteon BR/dvd
500-G Seagate 7200 sATA
Hanns 27.5" ... no dead pixels
legacy full_tower_case/Logitek.webcam/kboard/mouse/2+1 speakers/eth-DSL

All new components bought at NEWEGG -- I missed the price-drop in the X4-965, but no apologies are needed for that beast! The MSI mobo is as good as its reviews, though hardly a "minimalist" board. Double for the Hanns.

The system may appear a bit overwhelming for (my) crowd casually trained on systems with < 6502 / 300 baud > performance and hardware. BUT ... the real shocker is how cleanly and transparently UBUNTU_Jaunty handles the entire kit and performance.

There were a few hickups ... in particular Jaunty does NOT load the <180.xx> vidcard driver automagically; but it's right there, one CLICK away and performs marvelously on the Hanns big_screen! UBUNTU has certainly for'arded its grip on newer hardware. Three cheers.
