I've got 7 hours to eat 20 (use it or lose it) Gigabytes. I'm going DL crazy with Linux/BSD images and wondering what else I could use other than documentation.

all five DVD .iso's that comprise the full Debian Stable operating system.

same with FreeBSD and all it's ports.

ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/amd64/ISO-IMAGES/7.2/

there.

now, if the entire DNS server and TCP/IP infrastructure around the world fails, you are prepared to start working on it's replacement from your home.

having all of Debian Stable and all of FreeBSD is kind of like having a well stocked nuclear bunker in your basement.

Lucky!! I use hughesnet so I'm limited to 15.6 megabytes an hour.
If I were you I would download some of the top linux distros just for fun. Mint,OpenSuse, ect.

Thanks ep. I'll save a portion of the Debian DVD for tomorrow.

lol @ pr0n. I was thinking to myself just the other day that I haven't even been to a rippers in 7 years. No to that. Yes to an archive of classic gaming from years gone by. (I still have the old cartridges)

I got OpenSuse, Fedora, OpenBSD 4.6 (which I had no idea was ready.. thanks for nothing Twitter), Crunchbang, Ubuntu Mini CD's, and the most recent update for Puppy.

I like things the way that they are but maybe there's a pack of themes I can download from gnome-look or something. t minus 4 hours.

What ISPs do you guys use? I'm from the U.S., and I get 200 GB up/down from Comcast. :o

60 GB (grandfathered) through the traffic shaping phone company. Obviously not the largest I've ever had, but I've only exceeded the included monthly transfer once. I shouldn't have called it a cap, but you get the idea. I would've seeded Karmic if the final release came out today.

I think it's one of those deals where they say it's UNLIMITED but really it has a fair use clause of so many gigs

I'd do that, too. Roughly 20 gigs, right?

I'm glad I don't have a cap. I prolly use 200-300 gigs a month.

I have been wondering..
How do you guys know your ISP's cap?

I used to have Charter Communications as my ISP. I know they had or have some cap as they will cut my internet without any warning.

I looked at the contract but couldn't find any mention of a cap.

Sometimes you can just find the capping for your ISP on its website, or just phone them and ask. My ISP doesn't cap at all, and at home we are 6 using it. We pretty much tested it to the max and it never failed. But yeah, just check on you ISP website or phone them to know your cap.

If you have a couple of megabytes left at the end of the night, you could try downloading the entire works of Jules Verne :-)

o.O. By yourself, or is the household helping?

30GB here, and while thats not quite enough I cant imagine going through any more than 60-90GB much a month. Maximum. *checks usage* Hmm, seeing how I'm now paying upload AND download 30GB sucks. I think I need a new ISP.

:O That's ridiculous, What do you do? (hope it's not what doas777 suggested :P )

I don't know how anyone could use that much bandwidth unless your just downloading stuff constantly... vnstat reveals the following about my b/w usage...

Jul '09 | 4.32 GB
Aug '09 | 48.39 GB <-- This is about the time when I discovered "Lost"
Sep '09 | 56.51 GB
Oct '09 | 31.80 GB

No cap for me here in New Zealand. I do about 40-50GB a month. Though one month I did go crazy and downloaded something like 1TB.

You must be with a different ISP to me or on a different plan. I get about 20Gb before my connection is throttled to so-called "dial-up" speed, still usually faster than I've ever achieved using dial-up when I've managed to exceed it.

For downloads I'd suggest www.archive.org - some of the old educational movies are quite a laugh. One, which would be quite funny if it wasn't intended to be serious, is intended to show some of the symptoms of schizophrenia (http://www.archive.org/details/Symptoms1940): I don't know what it is with the masks, as if such masks would properly disguise the people's identities.

10Gb. Thats all I'm allowed :(

Luckily, Eircom (ISP) don't seem to charge for going over, so it download ~30Gb a month. Then again, my speed doesn't go above 28kbytes/s, on a 1Mb/s plan. I need to talk to them :(

Torrents, but not porn. Mostly TV shows and Movies. I tend to download seasons rather than episodes. I download 10 or so seasons a week it seems like.

It seems that most of you have bandwidth cap? Here in my place most ISPs provide unlimited usage. But my connection is only 10mbps down / 1.5mbps up.
