Had problems with Compiz in Ubuntu causing tearing in my video playback. Kubuntu didn't do this, it dropped frames when using Kwin. I disabled the desktop effects in either, and have perfect video playback.
I have an Nvidia GTX 260 Video card, and I am using Mplayer with VDPAU.
Does anyone know how to keep the desktop effects enabled, and get perfect playback?

You told me about that in another thread. And it didn't work for me.
I seem to be falling between the cracks here.

Np. I am beginning to think it's an OpenGL problem, and I might not have things set at the right refresh.
I only get this tearing problem when I am using an "eye-candy" style Window manager like Compiz or Kwin. Both of which render using OpenGL.
Any ideas?
