I have a mini itx system that i want to change out the motherboard its currently running ubuntu 9.04. I know with windows this is not much of a problem i would just have to re-activate. The motherboard swap would be a significant upgrade would it be a issue? What should i be ready to do when i swap the board?

With Ubuntu, if you swap a motherboard, it should automatically pick up on what drivers are needed for the board.
The only difference may be the driver to support your video card. Audio/network cards are typically built in and won't pose a problem.
But, if you go from an ATI card to an nVidia card, this driver will need to be changed out.
