Ok i have installed Ubuntu and WinXP together and have encountered a few problems.

WinXP:

Won't connect to the internet at all; it says something along the lines of i need to install modems. I need the internet to activate it. I tried getting the drivers on a external hard drive from another computer but when i switched over it needed the internet to install the drivers.
This is all i have found so far.
Ubuntu 9.04:

Seems to boot normally but starts up in a resolution that isn't supported by my monitor. I have found a work around by starting in recovery mode and auto correcting the display settings and then starting normally.
Any help would be appriciated, thanks.

I don't have any advice for you about getting XP to connect to the internet.

As for the Ubuntu resolution problem, after you get a useable display, you can use the graphical interface tool displayconfig-gtk to improve the picture. To access it, hit Alt-F2 to get a command line, and enter
gksudo displayconfig-gtkYou can enter you monitor type, and then try some of the resolutions.
