I am using an ancient Compaq laptop (Evo n400c) running Ubuntu 8.1 very happily. Recently I have been trying to install a linksys wpc54g wireless pcmcia card. No fun so far.

Ubuntu 9.1 is coming out in 4 days... will 9.1 have all the required drivers to make the wireless card work "out of the box" ? It sure would save a lot of time and trouble. Thanks in advance.

Best way to find out is to run 9.10 in LiveCD mode and see if it installs the drivers needed for your wireless card. That prevents you from going through all the trouble of an upgraded (which is not reversable) only to find out that your wireless still does not work.
