If I install Compiz (to enable the 3-D cube) from a live disc (which im runing now) what will happen to it when i take the disc out?

my best guess, it would disappear, but then i hav never tried installing such software whilst running from a live cd, and i personally suggest you don't, unless your computer is blisteringly fast as live cds are sluggish anyway let alone trying to run something so cpu intensive, but try it and post what happens

I hate to double post but how do you use compiz when you install it?

System --> Appearances --> Visual Effects tab

or run fusion-icon (if that's installed)

I only have options to have no, normal, or Extra effects. I guess this wraps up this experitment.

CONCLUSION: You can't run Compiz off a live disc.

Extra effects is using Compiz. This will require the installation of a proprietary nvidia driver, modprobing the module, and restarting X...
