Ok so last time round I made the brave move to Kubuntu. I love it, it looks amazing. But I'm currently using the 9.10 LiveCD and well. I'm really impressed. It looks so elegant! I know gnome usually does but this is just a huge step with very little done. It looks much more professional. There is still much to be done and it still needs more elegance to compete with M$ or Apple. But this is great. I think I still like the eye candy of KDE. I'm torn, please help!!!

If you can't make your mind up, go with the default GNOME. Personally I can't stand KDE because of it's labyrinth-like options menus.

I thought I saw a man brought to life
He was warm, he came around like he was dignified
He showed me what it was to cry
Well you couldnt be that man I adored
You dont seem to know, dont seem to care what your heart is for
But I dont know him anymore
Theres nothing where he used to lie
My conversation has run dry
Thats whats going on, nothings fine Im torn

Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
Im wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
Youre a little late, Im already torn

So I guess the fortune tellers right
Should have seen just what was there and not some holy light
To crawl beneath my veins and now
I dont care, I have no luck, I dont miss it all that much
Theres just so many things that I cant touch, Im torn

Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
Im wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
Youre a little late, Im already torn. torn.

Theres nothing where he used to lie
My inspiration has run dry
Thats whats going on, nothings right, Im torn

Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and I am shamed lying naked on the floor
Illusion never changed into something real
Im wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn
Im all out of faith, this is how I feel
Im cold and Im ashamed bound and broken on the floor
Youre a little late, Im already torn

If you can't make your mind up, go with the default windows.

Personally I can't stand KDE because of it's labyrinth-like options menus.
There are multiple styles for the kde menu, theres classic (kde3/gnome style), default (somewhat more like vista) and lancelot (an improved vista style one)

to OP: If you can't decide install both and keep the one you use more (it may even be metacity/compiz+kde apps or kwin+gnome apps)

I don't think they meant the Kmenu. Just all options menus generally. They're too messy and confusing. KDE really don't go for the 'less is more' philosophy.

I just saw a car insurance commercial about the "less is more" thing. They said, "more is less", because now you pay less but you get more.

Haha.

Really, given that I hide most of my menus (ctrl+m) I rarely use them (especially as i can customise all my keyboard shortcuts), but looking at my menus. I really don't see how they are confusing every menu does what it say on the tin, but then again I don't think less is more and that computer programs should expose their options to their users.

I also think that the options should be available to the user however only the basic options should be readily available. Ubuntu is trying to create an environment for the general public. Losta options is not how that is done.

KDE really isn't that full of options, they are there but only if you want them. The only application which I find a little bloated is Kopete because they haven't really got rid of the feature bloat yet (but I use Pidgin anyway).

KDE 4.3.2 is amazing :)

It's all plugin based, what are you on about? (I don't mean that as an insult but i really want to know what features the core kopete has that are excessive?). I know kopete isn't great (and originally used pidgin too), but feature bloat isn't a problem I've noticed.

It just seems to have a lot of menu options and stuff, although actually yeah now that I think about it the preferences window itself wasn't too bloated :) I guess it's ok!

I guess that's it then, I don't really think any of KDE is bloated, and the bits that might feel that way will almost certainly get smoothed out fairly soon :)
