Installing Ubuntu 9.10 on Acer Aspire 7738G

Yesterday I tried to install Ubuntu on this laptop.
I created a bootable USB stick with Unetbootin and it booted to Ubuntu.

A few problems though:
1) The top and bottom bars are not loading (seems to hang or something because mouse pointer is a circle all the time).
2) When I click on Install Ubuntu 9.10 it brings me up to the screen where it says installing system and then the screen disappears and the installer closes.

I have tried everything (re-create bootable USB stick, installed from CD, installed from DVD, restarted gdm before installing).

Can someone please help me?

Try using the Alternate install CD instead, you may have some success.

I tried, no success.
CDROM would work I guess (it has never not worked before) but I need Ubuntu to be installed from usb stick since I don't have cdroms with me right now.

It installed fine today (from USB stick).
I have no idea why it worked all of a sudden.

Maybe new version of unetbootin???
