One more detail, as if they are not enough :) I used the Server kernels so I could use all of my ram (6gb). When I upgraded, these kernels stayed and no new kernels got installed. Maybe that's the problem, but I have no idea how to install the 9.10 RC kernel.

There is not a downgrade option. So besides listing information what have you done to try and get it working.

I tried upgrading alsa to the latest version - .21, but that didn't help... tried lots and lots of things, can't remember... but nothing helped. As far as I know, other people with my problems exist but none of them have the solution so far. I guess, everyone with a P5Q Pro motherboard and everyone with the same intel sound card will have problems with the 9.10... that's too bad. I had sound working on all my kubuntu installs so far :(
