I have 192mb of RAM, it should be 256 but in system information it's only showing as 192.
Would Ubuntu run fine on this machine, or should i get more RAM before installing?

will run probably (albeit sluggishly) use 8.04 and it will be faster. Xubuntu is no faster than regular ubuntu on old or new hardware so unless you like xfce, dont use it (editing menus is a headache withouth the alacarte menu editor.)

You have 256mb of RAM, but it sounds like your video card is taking 64mb of that for itself, so you only have 192mb available to the system. Here you will see the system requirements for Ubuntu.
