View Full Version : Is anyone able to make a nice looking mockup for me?

I'd like to suggest a better design for the simplified nautilus idea in order to cut out some of the unnecessary chrome of the browser. I've been able to make a mockup the only way I know how --drawing, going over in permanent marker and then scanning. As a result I've got a mockup that can't be seen very well. Is someone with the graphic experience willing to help me by making a better looking mockup of this?

I'll explain it below.

The icon to the left of the address bar is the button that toggles it to and from button mode, the icon to the right is a refresh/stop button. Next to that is an "up one level button" and a "spanner" button (for the options, icon view, list view etc.

The bottom consists of a bar with shortcuts that would otherwise be in the side pane or top pane, from left to right:
-home, computer, desktop, documents, download, music, pictures, video, filesystem, search bar, zoom slider.

It would be much appreciated if someone made a decent mockup of this as I don't feel it communicates my ideas effectively in its current form.

YOWCH! I'd absolutely HATE having my 'places' on the bottom - incredibly unintuitive! The reason why in pretty much every file manager/browser (OS X, Windows, Thunar, Dolphin, etc) has them at the side isn't because it's popular but because it's based on well researched and documented facts on how users best respond to interfaces.

Other than that it's an okay design. It just looks like nautilus with the side panel turned off though...

That could be turned into a thin vertical sidebar with relative ease.

The bar could even be moved directly under the address bar. It's a flexible idea to cut the clutter and make it more attractive.

You've made a good point though, what I'm trying to do is to increase both screen estate and usability.

I could give it a try.

But first do a second mock up, a little neater. Just so I know what i'm looking at.

yes please, is it possible for you to send an editable copy, there's some changes I'd like to make.

Well... sure. Just download the imageshack version. I use raster graphics, so there's not much you can do. But still feel free to edit.
