I'm sure that this has been asked before but here it go's.
Is there a way to have desk 1 have a differnt wallpaper then desk 2?

If you disable the icons on the desktop (nautilus), then compiz will manage it and that has a plugin for setting different wallpapers via ccsm.

Ok,
first look at this:

The you just need to install apt://compizconfig-settings-manager and select your wallpapers in the wallpaper plugin.

Thank you. It took alittle poking around but I got it.

One question Im I going to lose somthing by running that command?

yes, the icons on your desktop; it is the only way to get different wallpapers on different desktops in Gnome. You can get them back by simply running the same command but switching false with true.

There are a few other side effects as well. I found it lost the ability to provide actions on auto-mount like (say) automatically running nautilus to display a USB disk when plugged in. It still works of course, just not automatically.

On the whole I didn't like it and turned the normal desktop back on.
