While I use it, I cant hear a thing. When I stop it. I can. Many programs use it. But what is it exactly???

It's a subsystem for handling audio at instant-to-low latencies, it uses a lot of CPU so keep it away from your *books. It is designed for audio professionals and enthusiasts.

Just be careful about playing stuff when you are running it, the sound will "pile up" and if too much of it does, your computer will crash.
