You would be better off with DDR-2 800 (minimum, I would probably get 1066) Thats RAM is too expensive anyway, you can get DDR2- 800 with faster timings and heatspeader for the same price-

I wouldnt get a motherboard with intergrated video if your going to buy a video card anyway. Maybe something like this would be better-
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135240

I would also drop the 1GB 9500 GT. 1GB will not help with a low-end card like that, you are not going to play anything that would need 1GB with a 9500 GT, better off to get 512MB. something like this might be a better choice-

BTW, with the $ you save on the video card, you could get a AM3/DDR3 setup-

Did you see this review:

I run mostly Linux machines and there is no driver for the on-board NIC (Realtek RTL8211CL). I had to install a separate NIC card in order to use the board.

He may be wrong, but I would look into it if I were you. Also, I've never heard of the manufacturer. Maybe see if you can find anything about their customer service reputation, and check out the support side of their website.

I'd have to agree with cascade9 about the RAM, but I'm not a big fan of FoxConn (maker of the first mobo he suggested).

Buy this CPU/Motherboard combo, its a much better deal (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.273426)

this graphics card is fanless, and cheaper (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187034)

DDR3 RAM, and its faster and newegg has it in stock (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253)

You dont need a CD-R Drive?
A DVD/CD-RW drive is $10 more.
You can get 250GB of storage for a few dollars more too. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185)

Never heard of Realtek? o.O

It says its fine

BTW, that initial post was wrong, so so wrong. I didnt check the CPU socket type, I guessed from the pricing of everything else it would be AM2+. I forgot that people tend to build computers with as much CPU as they can afford, and then skimp on other things like RAM. Bad idea.

If any mods see this, it probably should be in 'hardware & laptops' not the community cafe. Not that its a major issue

Heh, that motherboard is DDR2. DDR3 is not going to work on that. If your going to go up to a $100 board, avoid th 790GX. More onboard video junk you dont need, get a 770 or 790FX.

@ alphaniner- I found some link to a linux driver for the realtek, but gawds only know where that link is now. I guess when you said 'dont know that manufacturer' you meant asrock. They have been around for a while now, I think I saw my 1st asrock motherboard in 2003/2004 at the latest.

would the onboard graphics be good enough for a non gaming rig? gonna put windows 7 on it and use it for hulu/ripping my dvds to a gigantic harddrive

The onboard grpahic should run fine, but theres every chance that it will be slow with aeroglass enabled.

I'd really think about getting an nVidia based motherboard if your going to use the on-board graphics. (unless you planning on only running win7 on it, in which case..this is probably the wrong forum LOL)
