Dear pals
Is it possible to install ubuntu using Live CD If so please show me the way how to do.And could anyone tell me the difference between alternate cd and Live cd .

Download the iso file for the version you want and burn to cd, then boot your computer from it. You can either boot to a desktop and install from there or choose to install from the cd boot screen.

Click on "Text based “alternate installer” bottom right hand corner for a brief description and download links.

Thank you so much,but what I want to know is - if I want to fresh install what type of cd I need Desktop or alternate cd?

Either one, but installing from the live cd is faster because it copies a pre-made system onto your computer instead of installing each package one by one. You end up with exactly the same thing.

the live cd is a bootable disc as well as a installer. the alternate disc is not a bootable disc but is a text based installer. so you get no gui. but both can be used to install ubuntu. like going to town by bus and by car. both ways will end you up in town:)
