View Full Version : [ubuntu] Control Backlighting on Monitors

Many out there, including myself, seem to have problems controlling the brightness on their (external) monitors. I'm posting this under "Desktop Environments" and not laptops as it is often posted under the wrong forum section.

I have yet to find a solution to this problem. Recent monitors are so bright as to be blinding. This is even after setting their hardware set controls to 0 (both for brightness and contrast). This is still insufficient.

From what I've read Compiz, for some, has settings that enable brightness control. If this is true it is not a viable option for me as I have an Intel 965 chipset which is black listed. I have tried over riding this feature and consequently had to fix it.

Is there any way to control the back lighting on external monitors?

Suggested Programs?
Command Line through terminal?

I'm open to any suggestions.
