I made a wallpaper last night in GIMP, you wanna tell me what you think of it? http://camtheguitarist.deviantart.com/art/Corkboard-Wallpaper-141089546

Hey there!
Nice job! It's ugly! :)

edit: ok, let me tell you why:
- that brown is weird looking on the screen
- the post-it notes are empty and meaningless
- no gradients which makes it even more dull
- the huge paper in the middle is too white and eye disturbing

I second the *facepalm*. Here's why

- that brown is weird looking on the screen
What other color corkboard is there?

- the post-it notes are empty and meaningless
They aren't meant to be full, they're meant to organize desktop icons.

- no gradients which makes it even more dull
There aren't exactly gradients on real life corkboards, just flat color.

- the huge paper in the middle is too white and eye disturbingPaper? White? NO!

Also, it's CC-BY-NC-SA (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/) so if you don't like it, download it, and fix what you don't like. :)

I like the idea a lot, and think it would be exceptional with the newest release of KDE, rotating icons and what have you.

It looks really blurry, though, probably because it's not intended for widescreen (what I have). Could you try a 1280x800 resolution? Also, if the cork board looked bigger (there was more brown around the border), it might look better on my desktop. Pretty sweet work! :-)

i think it's great!

and can we stop with the *facepalm* trolling and counter-trolling, please?

There's a huge difference between real life paper & corkscrew and a replication of them on a screen.
But if you really want to make such a wallpaper, add a touch to it to make it bearable, me thinks. (gradients or whatever)

And wow, it would have taken me a while to figure out by myself that those papers are there to organize the icons. Maybe because it'd be too messy for me to ever do it...

Also, why the hell did you ask for OPINIONS if you can't take the negative ones?
Why didn't you just say: "Here's a wallpaper I made. Look at it and like it!"?

And Warpnow... poor guy! Maaan! Poor guy! :(

What's your obsession with gradients?

cguy

No obsession, it's just that nothing else crossed my mind when thinking about how it could get interesting.

Maybe, if you had read the papers, you would've seen "Downloads" on the sticky note, "Personal Stuff", "projects" and "Icons!" on the index cards. My corkboard is not neat, and it's inteded to be messy. I can take negative opinions, but wow, you're kinda trolling.

1280x800 is up! It's now packaged as a .zip, with the .png and .psd for both resolutions in it. http://camtheguitarist.deviantart.com/art/Corkboard-Wallpaper-141089546

Sorry, but I think it's ugly - I really wouldn't want to stare at a cork-board all day.

Macs are open-source, right?
Yes; you can download the source here (http://opensource.apple.com/).

Yes, but that's only Darwin, correct?

Yeah, an important part of Mac OS X is open source, but other important parts aren't. You wouldn't call it open source as a whole. If you took all the source on that site, you might be able to build... something similar to FreeBSD.

1280x800 is done, as is a version with a border. http://camtheguitarist.deviantart.com/art/Corkboard-Wallpaper-141089546

I think it's a pretty cool concept. I like it. But that's just my opinion, just like it's some people's opinion that it is ugly.

If you don't like it, just don't download it.

But I will say that it's not an entirely stupid idea to use a gradient, if you do it right. Corkboards don't have gradients, but they do have shadowing from the room's light sources. If you do it right, that is what the gradient would be for.

But I think it looks pretty good as is, too. The post-it notes is a good idea.

key words there being "if you do it right"
I'm still pretty new to GIMP, (and graphic design), so I couldn't pull it off, I don't think.
