For a long time I have been saying that "If I can just get my ATI card to have decent 3D, I will get rid of windows."

Well, the ATI drivers still suck, so I went out and bought a new gamecube instead. No need for Windows......I think I will let my firewall down before I nuke it- let it have a virusy death.

I don't have an ATI card, but that's why I bought a GameCube also. Considering it's possible to buy a GameCube for less then a mid-market video card, to me, it's the perfect solution. But I also love Nintendo's franchise games. :)

Now, to keep this thread from turning into an all out flame-fest, if you prefer a different console, then buy what you want. However, if you want to game, I think a console is often a better solution than waiting for better driver support. By all means, e-mail your card manufacturer and request better support, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I got sick of waiting.

I havent done any research on it yet ....
But is there a keyboard device that you can plug into any of the console game platforms ?
I dont really care what platform I play on I just cant play with those normal game controllers.

You could always pick up a Dreamcast. It's last generation, but it'd be cheap, you could get a keyboard (though I'm not sure it works with all games), and there are a ton of great games available. I'm not familiar with any solutions for more current consoles.

However, I think if you'd just give controllers a chance, you'd probably get used to them. Especially for a number of "console style" games, a keyboard and mouse just may not be feasible.

Hi

I must say that I have "dabbled" with linux for some time now and had not really got anywhere with it so I religiously held onto the drive with windows on it for and dont laugh security.

Anyway to cut a long story short, all of my computing life now (20 years or so) I actually remember what I do best and that was drop myself in at the deep end.

So a month ago today I decided to say goodbye to all of the windows nightmares and wipe the drive and have never looked back :)

What I would like to say to people about to give up on linux cause of all the rebuilds you end up doing in the early days is dont forget that that philosophy is actually quite the norm in windows live, with viruses hacking etc so why hang on to windows when you know deep down it will just be a matter of time before you reload the commercialised rubbish.

Only this morning I recieved 4 spam emails all with attachments and once I edited them with a hex editor I found them to be yet another windows virus. Fortunately at this point in time it is not something I have to worry about any more.

Thanks Linux, thanks ubuntu and thank to all of you good people that have been helping me so far.

Take care

Darren

The drivers may suck, but I think "decent" falls in the range of what I get out of it. I'm able to play Enemy Territory on my Radeon 9800 Pro with fps locked at 76. On top of that, it doesn't look half bad; I actually prefer settings a little lower than the best, since some games give me 'motion sickness'. Oh well, to each their own. :)

I always find playing games on a console much better than on the computer. :D

That, and the fact that if you start playing Windows games you'll find it harder to switch to Linux. Atleast for the next 5-8 years until they start making Linux games...

I attempted to do this...Gamecube instead of the computer, but then came World of Warcraft...man, I got sucked in and haven't put the game down now. I'm so pathetic, give it up to the marketing people...lol
