Can I install Haiku on my 64 bit system?

their website states:

For R1 we are only targeting x86-32 (i586 and newer). Support for x86-64 will likely come in the future, but there are no firm plans yet.

But I am not sure what to make of this.

I run the live CD more or less fine (working but very slowly), and I would like to install it, but i won't if there is no chance for it to work.

Yes you can because x86-64 systems are fully compatible with x86 32-bit systems.

Just like you can install 32-bit or 64-bit Ubuntu or Windows on your PC, you can install 32-bit Haiku OS on your PC. It will just not use the 64-bit extensions.
