I installed Ubuntu 9.04 today on my desktop because windows was getting to many viruses and causing me to re-format every other god damn week. so the installation went smoothly and everything all works except for the fact that because i did not put a password in during the installation i can not access the synaptic package manager. i need to acess this to download wine and a few other apps so i can run some windows apps like my mums chat programme and other apps. can someone please tell me how to reset the password so i can go in to programms that require admin privelages (sorry about my windows language here its a habbit lol) thanks for the help in advance

Your description makes no sense, in that I have never installed without a password so I don't know if the name and password gui will let you progress without a password, and you have the system up and running. Here is a link on how to reset the password follow it carefully. http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
