I have to update because my synaptic package manager and my repositories through the terminal dont list any thing but the already installed packages on it until after I upgrade. I have windows on a smaller partition to run quickbooks for my business. After I upgrade, when I boot it skips grub so I cant choose windows. If anyone could help today it would be great.

And also would anyone know how to make the ubuntu detect the expansion slots for an sd card?

Your first post is a little confusing in that it is hard to tell if you updated or upgraded and if you upgraded what was it to. If you upgraded the Jaunty to Koala and have grub2 then a sudo update-grub should have the windows partition show up in grub. The description of packages, the terminal and synaptic is rather confusing. You will need to give a better description of what you have done to get help if you can. :)
