I just installed 9.04 UNR. I did the update and restarted the computer (Dell inspiron 1011) and everything seemed fine.

I decided I didn't want to use the UNR desktop, so I switched to classic. This was also fine.

But when I started up the computer again it took me to a blank desktop with no panels indicating network connection, battery status or anything like that.

I can still right-click and create launchers and new folders. I can also launch programs if I find them in the directory, but there the windows cannot be dragged or moved around.

Also, I launched the switch desktop modes and was able to go back to the UNR desktop, but the panels still were not there.

How can I get the computer to book to the full desktop?

Thanks.

I was able to get the panels started by launching gnome-panels in usr/bin

But I still don't have windows when I launch an application. The application just stays glued to the top left corner of the screen.

When I go to System > Preferences > Windows it gives me the message

"Cannot start the preferences application for your window manager

Window manager "unknown" has not registered a configuration tool"

Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks again.

I'm also having this problem... it happened in my root account and now it's happening in the guest account I just created...
