Hi,

I have Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop edition installed. I also use this same computer to run a forum for which I had Apache2, PHP5, MySQL and then Discuz!7 installed. So pretty much my current desktop has nice Ubuntu GUI for my word processing and web surfing but in the background it also acts as a server.

I now want this machine to also run as a mail server and news group server. The tutorial (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=614230) I am reading assumes Ubuntu Server edition is already installed.

My question is: where can I find a list of packages that are in the server edition and are left out in desktop edition? I would like to patch up my current machine so hopefully there won't be too many errors when I try to set it up as a mail server and news group server.

Thanks.

try sudo tasksel or in Synaptic Edit > Mark Packages by task

That may be what you want.
