View Full Version : [gnome] Gone Painfully, Painfully, Slow

My system was sailing along just fine.

Release 9.04
GNOME 2.26.1
Processor AMD 64 3200+
Memory 1002.7 MB

I then used Synaptic Package manager to install VCN and I thought to add a bunch more GNOME things that looked useful.

After a reboot, I now have a painfully slow system. It takes 20 seconds to move a window.

I have a root account enabled, and I can log in using it. When I do, and I am in the GNOME desktop, I get the same great performance that I used to have.

How do I go about figuring out what is wrong?

I don't want to just uninstall without knowing what I am doing. When I switched to Thunderbird, I uninstalled all the Evolution stuff and found that I removed a lot of important GNOME stuff.

All help appreciated!

I am pretty sure you can download GNOME core files from Synaptic.
And about the VCN try removing it from the start-up applications.
