I can't work out if it's the CD or the CD drive that's failed here. Did you save the CD as an ISO image?

I still don't know if you saved the CD as an ISO image? How old is the PC? Can you use another PC to burn an image on to a USB memory stick and them boot from that?

I used a FinalBurner to burn a CD, in the options I selected a data CD, than select ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64.iso file that i downloaded.

My computer is 2 years old!

I think you need to select "burn image" or "burn iso".

Easiest way to tell is to boot into Windows, then pop the CD in the optical drive. Ask Windows to "Explore" the CD.
If it comes up as one huge file you did it wrong.
If it shows as several folders and a handful of files, you at least know that it was converted properly.

That doesn't guarantee the CD will work - if you used a CD-RW, or a really cheap, generic CD-R, or burned it at ludicrous speed, the CD could still be unusable.
