Hi! I have installed last year ubuntu 7.10. Yesterday I have tried to upgrade dia diagram editor from 0.96 to 0.97 and ended up removing so many things that only the terminal is now working.

I have downloades ubuntu 8.04 iso from the web site but it doesn't upgrade. I have all my work there and do not know how to solve the problem.

Any ideas please. I do not want to do a clean installation. I have many things, data and programs already configure in my old installation that is not working any more.

Hope you can guide me to recover my graphic interface and access to my documents and then to the upgrade.

Thanks

Rod

hi,

Ubuntu 7.10 is no longer supported "officially":

Ubuntu 7.10's support ended on April 18, 2009.

the easiest way to save all your stuff is to boot the 8.04 CD, and back up your /home folder to a thumb drive or some other external media.

from there, you can do a fresh install of 8.04 or 9.04 or (in a few weeks) 9.10 and copy that /home folder back onto the new install. restart your computer and *poof* your settings and documents will be restored.
