View Full Version : Is there a way to run my Windows partition like a VM from within Linux?

Just wondering, as I have Win XP on a separate partition and of course it would be so fast and also quite stylish to boot it from within Linux! Is this possible or... I don't even fully know how VMs work even so this is largely foreign to me. The dual boot works fine but... this is like another hurdle I haven't yet attempted :)

Yes it is possible with vmware.
I actually tried it a little over a year ago.

It worked fine, EXCEPT that the hadware for windows was different depending of the way windows was booted. (real hardware, or virtual hardware) And this cause d problems for windows. It thought that each time it was booted it had been installed to a new computer, and you would have to re-activate your windows licence quite often. Which was annoying..

I don't know why , but the virtualbox replies that the vmdk file created by vboxmanage command has syntax error at line .
