And yet you could get 100 GB on dropbox for $20 a month

And you can buy a Terra-byte HD for 80$

Because a hard drive and online storage are the same exact things

true, but all they need to do now is add the 100 for $20. and there will be no difference. then theres no reason to not use it.

And a legal pad with a nice pen for $3.50

Wait... was this reductio ad absurdum deliberate? :-k

that is not what online storage is for. its to make it simple and easy to get data to other people. not to store your personal files.

Hmmm... I have yet to share anything using Ubuntu One. I just use it as a personal
file storage client.

so do i, but that's still not what it is meant for.thats what i have a 320GB external for:). they are supposed to be developing more uses than just file sharing for ubuntu-one right now though.

Hey Guys, I just wanted to ask a question here instead of starting a new tread.

Can anyone compare dropbox to ubuntu 1? I am more interested in having a online backup of some documents and sharing photos with my folks. I don't need to sync my work computer (XP machine) with home home machine, but who knows in the future if this is handy?

Thank you

I think it's a significant improvement of the service actually. Ubuntu One is going to become useful for syncing a much wider range of things in the future. Tomboy notes and Evolution contacts have been added and browser bookmarks, folders outside the current one, and presumably a lot more are in the pipeline. I think a lot of users would find 10GB of stuff to sync easily, so expanding out to 50GB is great.

50GB also makes it a much more useful tool for off-site backups.

They need to make more options and more free space available.
